In Montreal the studio Saucier + Perrotte converts a former quarry into a public space for sports and leisure activities
Lo stadio per il calcio progettato dallo studio Saucier + Perrotte Architectes insieme a HCMA fa parte di una serie di interventi pubblici per riqualificare la grande cava abbandonata a cielo aperto Miron, una voragine enorme, utilizzata fino a pochi anni fa come discarica. Collocato sul ciglio di una parete rocciosa, il progetto nelle intenzioni degli autori riprende la natura geologica del sito: infatti è come se la stratificazione della roccia si fosse sfaldata, sollevando un lembo minerale, che diventa il tetto dell’edificio. Questa copertura è l’elemento principale del progetto, perché diventa un grande gesto che risponde alla scala del territorio, piegandosi come se fosse sottoposto alle forze telluriche del paesaggio. Verso la città il centro si presenta come un luogo accogliente, segnato, soprattutto di sera, dalla luce che filtra al di sotto del ciglio del tetto, per poi aprire una serie di viste spettacolari verso la cava. (FG) The football stadium designed by the studio Saucier + Perrotte Architectes along with HCMA is part of a series of public projects aimed at converting the large former open-air Miron quarry, until recently was used as a landfill site. Located on the edge of a rocky cliff, the building reflects its authors intentions by referencing the geological nature of the site. In fact, it’s as if the stratified rock had been cleaved, raising up a layer of mineral stratum, which becomes the roof of the building. This covering is the principal element of the project because it becomes a grand gesture that responds to the scale of the territory, bending as if under the influence of the telluric forces of the landscape. Looking towards the city, the centre presents itself as a welcoming place, notable, especially at night, for the light that filters from under the edge of the roof, only to open onto a series of spectacular vistas of the quarry
