DESIGN HAPPENINGS
Da Beijing a Città del Messico, da Dubai a Taipei: ottobre ha molto da offrire agli appassionati di design From Beijing to Mexico City, from Dubai to Taipei: October can offer a lot to the design addicted
(MS) The principal unit of measure evaluated for the naming of a World Design Capital examines how a city uses design to come up with innovative policies and practices for the management of the economy, public services and culture. The 2016 capital is Taipei and the 2018 capital will be Mexico City. Both use multi-component and multi-disciplinary events as an international forum and a design week to attract and prepare the international names in design. In Mexico City (5-9 October) a fair and a constellation of solo exhibitions distributed throughout the metropolis’ museums will have as their overarching themes contemporary Mexican design and Germany, chosen as the guest country for the big event. In Taipei on the other hand (13-30 October) the main events will be an international conference on the methods and tools of design thinking, and an exhibition of the best local experiences with product design curated by Li Wei Lang. From September 23 to October 7 will take place the Beijing Design Week, the biggest in Asia: with the theme of Design 2020, this edition is composed of nine main sections and will display the innovative achievements of integrative development among culture creativity, design service and correlated industries. New geographic areas of production are fertile terrain for research at Dubai Design Week (24-29 October) that also for this edition confirms the Abwab format, an exhibition of national pavilions used to display products and research projects from neighbouring countries. Among those invited this year by the curator Cyril Zammit are Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq and Palestine. Dubai aims to be a new international centre also for design. That position has already been conquered by Wien, which with its design week (30 September – 9 October) is reaching the ten year milestone. They are marking it with a gathering full of celebrations and exhibitions
