This is not a house – il titolo è una citazione del celebre dipinto di René Magritte Il tradimento delle immagini (con la frase “This is not a pipe”) – è un’antologia curata da Dan Rubinstein e dagli editors di Mark Magazine e pubblicata da Rizzoli International: si tratta di una selezione di residenze in giro per il mondo (Giappone in primis ma anche Germania, Spagna, Stati Uniti, Svezia, Norvegia, Corea del Sud) che negli ultimi anni si sono distinte per particolarità e ingegnosità. Tra le tante, le forme bizzarre di Fuse Atelier, il materiale 100% riciclabile utilizzato da Werner Sobek, la sperimentazione estrema dell’edificio di vetro di Sou Fujimoto, la scomparsa dei confini tra interno e esterno, con lo sviluppo dell’abitazione intorno a un albero, di De Vylder Vinck Taillieu, la casa specchio di Johan Selbing e Anouk Vogel e quella acquario di Wiel Arets. Progetti dove le limitazioni diventano spinta creativa (ma mai fine a sé stessa) e in cui l’utilizzo efficace dello spazio, la funzionalità e il rispetto delle esigenze del cliente restano elementi da cui non si può prescindere. Piccola nota a margine: ogni progetto è identificato da una figura geometrica accompagnata a una parola chiave che ne spiega il motivo di interesse per gli autori, sintesi grafica semplice ed efficace. (MM) This is not a house – the title is a reference to the famous phrase in the painting by René Magritte, “This is not a pipe” – is an anthology curated by Dan Rubinstein and the editors of Mark Magazine and published by Rizzoli International. It includes a selection of homes from around the world (Japan especially, but also Germany, Spain, the United States, Sweden, Norway and South Korea) that over the past few years have set themselves due to their peculiarity and ingenuity. Among these are the bizarre shapes by Fuse Atelier, the 100% recyclable material used by Werner Sobek, the extreme experimentation of the glass building Sou Fujimoto, the disappearance of the boundaries between interior and exterior with the design of the home around a tree by De Vylder Vinck Taillieu, the mirror house by Johan Selbing and Anouk Vogel and that aquarium by Wiel Arets. Projects where limitations inspire creativity (but never as an end in itself) and in which the efficient use of space, functionality and respect for the needs of the client remain elements that cannot be ignored. A small side note: each project is identified with a geometric shape accompanied by a keyword that explains the reason the authors were interested in it, a simple and effective graphic device
