Federica Biasi has a special aptitude for materials and finishes, which extends also to colours. It is no coincidence that for the last three years she has been the creative consultant for Fratelli Guzzini, where she focuses in particular on chromatic aspects of design. Bolstered by her work as art director for the Mingardo metalworking company, she will present a bookcase that is a modular system at the Furniture Fair: Marianne rethinks the floor-to-ceiling models of the 1960s, but is also influenced by the 1930s (the name is a reference to modernist designer Marianne Brandt) in its use of glass and exquisite brass details contrasting with the black-painted iron uprights. Also at the Fair, she will shift from metal to marble with the limited edition Dama for Incipit: stackable cylindrical containers – functional and decorative – for everyday storage requirements anywhere from the home office to the bathroom. And finally fabrics: the Om rug for CC-Tapis, in natural colours and with a fringe, which the designer sees as a representation of a night-time desert.
