IL CENTRO DI PORTO, rimasto per decenni in stato di abbandono, ha vissuto negli ultimi anni una nuova fase di vitalità, con conseguente riuso delle case storiche per negozi, gallerie e abitazioni. Situata nella Rua de Santo Ildefonso – dove lo studio d’architettura Pedro Ferreira ha già avuto modo di ristrutturare altri edifici – questa casa di epoca barocca si distingue da quelle adiacenti per il suo impianto tipologico e la sua volumetria. Diversamente dalla tipica struttura medievale su lotto stretto e allungato, infatti, la Casa dos Patios si sviluppa parallelamente alla strada con un corpo a due piani, scansito da cinque assi di aperture. Dal portone centrale si accede, attraversato l’androne, alla monumentale scala centrale a doppia rampa, coronata al piano superiore dalla loggia colonnata. È da qui che si sviluppa la nuova scala disegnata da Pedro Ferreira che porta al secondo piano, un innesto riconoscibile – per forma, materiali e colore – costituito da un involucro scatolare, di un blu ispirato a quello dei serramenti lato strada, che contiene gradini di legno chiaro usato anche nel cordolo superiore del parapetto. THE CENTRE OF PORTO, which was left for decades in a state of neglect, has been given a new lease of life in the last few years, with the reuse of its historic buildings as shops, galleries and houses. This house, in the Rua de Santo Ildefonso – where the Pedro Ferreira Architecture Studio has already renovated several other buildings – is from the baroque era and is distinguished from its neighbours by its structure and shape. Unlike with a typical mediaeval layout on a narrow and elongated lot, the Casa dos Patios has a two-storey block running parallel to the street, punctuated by five sets of openings. The main door in the middle leads, through an entrance hall, to a central monumental double staircase, crowned on the upper floor by a colonnaded loggia. It is from here that the new staircase designed by Pedro Ferreira leads to the second floor. Recognizable as an insert – by its form, materials and colour – it has a box-like shell, painted a shade of blue inspired by the colour of the door- and window-frames on the street side, that contains steps of the same pale wood used on the upper strip of the parapet. nuovo intervento nella facciata interna sulla corte, dove è stata creata una “seconda pelle” che conferisce una scala più domestica a questo edificio, nato sì come residenza unifamiliare, ma che nel tempo ha accolto anche una scuola, per poi essere frazionato e suddiviso in appartamenti. A parte i due locali a uso commerciale su strada, è proprio dalla corte interna che si accede agli appartamenti distribuiti ai vari piani. accogliendo undici unità abitative tra mono e bilocali. Il sottile corpo aggiunto alla facciata interna – una struttura che avvolge su tre lati la piccola corte – è interamente rivestito di pannelli di lamiera grecata rosso scuro. Esso conferisce profondità agli ambienti e crea una sorta di veranda che sfonda la preesistente facciata muraria, senza tuttavia stravolgerne il carattere. Vengono infatti perlopiù mantenute le finiture originali, riproposte in forma aggiornata, come i parquet a doghe con alti zoccolini dipinti di grigio chiaro, un colore riproposto per quasi tutti gli elementi lignei (porte, cornici e serramenti, mobili a incasso, cucina). Semplici e ariosi gli ambienti delle singole unità, la cui notevole luminosità è garantita dal fronte “a veranda”. ○ two rooms. The narrow block added to the internal façade – a structure that encloses the small courtyard on three sides – is covered entirely with dark red panels of corrugated sheet metal. This gives a sense of depth to the spaces and creates a sort of veranda that breaks through the pre-existing walling, but without distorting its character. In fact for the most part the original finishes have been retained, in an updated form, as with the strip parquet with high skirting boards painted light grey, a colour used for almost all the wooden elements (doors and frames, built-in cupboards, kitchen units).
