TURIN AND ITS LOCKDOWN

PIAZZA CASTELLO E PORTA PALAZZO, PIAZZA SAN CARLO E IL SANTUARIO DELLA CONSOLATA, alcuni dei luoghi più frequentati di Torino ritratti senza alcuna traccia di presenza umana, nelle notti di “lockdown”. A legare le immagini, scattate dal fotografo Michele D’Ottavio, le installazioni multimediali di Girando per Torino, tour cultural-turistico ideato in occasione del ventesimo anniversario del Museo Nazionale del Cinema e della Torino Film Commission. Collocate nei luoghi che sono stati set cinematografici, le postazioni riproducono in loop la scena del film lì girata e ne raccontano storia e curiosità. «Sono l’unica mostra che non ha chiuso in città», osserva D’Ottavio. Per questo ha scelto di fotografarle nel raccontare la Torino sospesa per Coronavirus: «Per girare una scena normalmente si chiudono le strade: in quei giorni la sensazione era che tutto fosse pronto per il ciak». PIAZZA CASTELLO AND PORTA PALAZZO, PIAZZA SAN CARLO and the Santuario della Consolata, a few of the most popular spots in Turin captured without human presence, on “lockdown” nights. Tying together images, shot by Michele D’Ottavio, are the multimedia installations of Girando per Torino, a cultural-touristic tour conceived for Torino Città del Cinema 2020 (Turin City of Cinema 2020) to mark the 20th anniversary of the National Museum of Cinema and the Torino Film Commission. Placed in the locations that were used as film sets, these stations display the scene of the film shot there. “It’s the only exhibition that hasn’t closed in the city”, observes D’Ottavio. That is why he chose to photograph them as part of his effort to capture Turin suspended by Coronavirus: “To shoot a scene streets are closed. And the feeling these days was that everything was ready for someone to yell “action!”.
