“MIEI CARI, SIETE MAESTRI”
“MY DEARS, YOU ARE MASTERS”
Conservate nella Raccolta del Disegno della Galleria Civica-Comune di Modena, le lettere di Gio Ponti a Ico e Luisa Parisi che vanno dai primi anni Cinquanta al 1979 (quando Ponti scompare) sono soprattutto il racconto dell’amicizia e della stima dell’affermato architetto per la giovane coppia di progettisti comensi che cominciava a farsi strada nel panorama postbellico. A una scelta di questo epistolario relativa al periodo 1954-1967 fu dedicata nel 1994 la mostra Gio Ponti. Lettere ai Parisi il cui catalogo, con la promozione di Ance Como e la cura di Paolo Donà, è ora riedito da NodoLibri. Una corrispondenza per immagini più che per parole, come Ponti amava fare, preferendo l’invenzione del disegno, del ricamare lettere sinuose sul foglio. “Miei cari la vostra poltrona Uovo è una meraviglia, siete maestri, a me non resta che ritirarmi e vivere nell’oblio a Civate”; “Natale 1954 Gio con gli auguri a Luisa Parisi, Giulia con gli auguri a Ico Parisi Anno 1955”: che siano occasioni private o professionali, Ponti ogni volta riprogetta questa corrispondenza di amorosi sensi, divertito e divertendo. Preserved in the Design Collection of the Galleria Civica-Comune di Modena, the letters from Gio Ponti to Ico and Luisa Parisi that date from the early 1950s to 1979 (when Ponti passed away) are most of all the story of the friendship and the high regard that the well-known architect felt for the young architect couple from Como who were beginning to make their way in the post-war landscape. In 1994 the exhibition Gio Ponti. Lettere ai Parisi (Gio Ponti. Letters to the Parisis) was dedicated to a selection of this epistolary collection relative to the period 1954-1967, the catalogue for which, with the support of Ance Como and edited by Paolo Donà, is now being republished by NodoLibri. A correspondence through images rather than words, as Ponti loved to do, preferring the inventiveness of drawing, of embroidering sinuous letters on the page. “My dears, your Uovo armchair is a marvel, you are masters, all that’s left for me is to retire and live in obscurity in Civate”; “Christmas 1954 Gio with best wishes to Luisa Parisi, Giulia with best wishes to Ico Parisi in 1955”: whether they were private or professional occasions, every time Ponti redesigned this correspondence of loving senses, amused and amusing.
The dust in the title alludes to the patina of time on the artefacts produced by the Bauhaus, shaken up by new interpretations provided by international specialists.
