La rivincita del giocoliere The Juggler’s Revenge
Prima grande retrospettiva italiana dedicata a Jean Cocteau, enfant terrible della scena artistica francese del XX secolo e tra le figure più autorevoli del suo tempo. Allestita presso la Collezione Peggy Guggenheim di Venezia e curata da Kenneth E. Silver, esperto dell’artista e storico dell’arte presso la New York University, la mostra La rivincita del giocoliere riunisce oltre 150 lavori da collezioni e musei internazionali, mettendo in luce la versatilità che sempre ha caratterizzato il linguaggio artistico di Cocteau. Figura di spicco dell’ambiente culturale parigino assieme a Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker, Coco Chanel e Tristan Tzara, si è infatti destreggiato in ambiti completamente diversi – dalla scrittura alla grafica, dai murales alla moda, alla regia – con approcci sempre originali. La rassegna si focalizza sulle opere di arte visiva, mettendo in mostra disegni, opere grafiche, arazzi, gioielli, scenografie, documenti, film. Una sezione dedicata al cinema e alla pubblicità sottolinea l’influenza esercitata da Cocteau su artisti quali Andy Warhol, Félix González-Torres, Pedro Almodóvar. Fino al 16 settembre.
• The first major Italian retrospective on Jean Cocteau, enfant terrible of the 20th-century art scene in France and one of the most authoritative figures of his time can be seen at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice. Curated by Kenneth E. Silver, an expert on the artist and an art historian at New York University, the exhibition La rivincita del giocoliere (‘The Juggler’s Revenge’) brings together over 150 works from international collections and museums, and highlights the versatility that has always characterised Cocteau’s artistic idiom. A prominent figure on the Paris cultural scene together with Pablo Picasso, Josephine Baker, Coco Chanel and Tristan Tzara, he has in fact ‘juggled’ in many completely different fields – from writing, graphics and murals to fashion and directing – always taking an original approach. The show focuses on visual art works, showcasing drawings, graphic works, tapestries, jewellery, stage sets, documents and films. A section on cinema and advertising highlights the influence exerted by Cocteau on artists such as Andy Warhol, Félix González-Torres and Pedro Almodóvar. Until September 16th.
