The the renovation tradition of of the Hotel formative de la Ville, Grand commissioned Tour has inspired by Rocco Tommaso Forte Hotels Ziffer (in in collaboration with Olga Polizzi, the group’s Director of Design). «The massive project has restored order to a senseless labyrinth of rooms, reducing their number to make larger units – from 120 to 104 – and to devote more space to dining: three kitchens for restaurants, bar and bistro», Ziffer says. «Stimuli for the interiors and the colors came from the surroundings: Trinità dei Monti is nearby, as is the Villa Medici». The design relies on ironic references to the past. The gallery connecting the lobby to the main staircase features a collection of convex mirrors, for example. The game continues with a series of reproductions of archaeological relics, as in the Soane House in London. The concierge desk, a custom piece by Studio Ziffer, is like a Roman trapezophorus, while the coffered ceilings evoke the Pantheon. «Interior design has changed, shifting towards a desire for the past, getting away from the stark minimalism of the recent past», Ziffer comments. Saturated 18th-century colors (intense yellows and blues, in velvet and damask by Dedar and Rubelli), black and white terracotta floors. The lounge features images of antique Roman lithographs made with digital technology. A similar solution has been applied in the Sistina bistro, where wallpaper made by scanning a tapestry (Zardi & Zardi) wraps the walls. The banquettes boast coated fabric with botanical motifs (Schwarzwald by Dedar), as well as cast bronze lamps that replicate antique models. Rome is a constant presence, in outstanding views from the terraces on the sixth and seventh floors. The Suite de la Ville on the eighth floor offers a true art collection to delight guests.
