While constantly respecting the original architectural character». The first problem to be solved was the irregular layout of the spaces. «There was no sense of order», Dorata says, «no logic. The rooms seemed to be arranged by chance, almost maximizing fatigue. So the key to the project was to find a new order». Dorata has relied on the established codes of his own creative language, his almost mathematical sense of the classic, and a lucid idea of glamour that makes him unique in the world of interior design. To achieve spatial and perceptive coherence, the architect defined and underlined axes of perspective and symmetry, creating sequences of architectural features, such as that of the living-dining area with two large custom travertine fireplaces as its focal points. Or the atrium, which becomes a node for four doors and two long corridors topped by a vaulted “sky” that boosts the sense of depth. In the master bedroom the bed, sofa, windows and doors generate a relaxing cruciform symmetry. Dorata: «The intensive use of perspective and symmetry produces a sort of visual rhythm, enhanced by the use of plaster frames to create panels on the walls and ceilings». The furnishings combine vintage pieces with other items and accessories designed for the occasion by the architect, in an evocative synthesis of the Metaphysical and Art Deco: the harmony and rhythm emerge in “closed” compositions of two or four pieces, armchairs, sofas, tables, sideboards, paintings and sculptures, placed face to face or in linear sequences. White is the dominant, reinforced by the floors in warm wood, and very precise natural and artificial lighting. Amplified spatial perceptions, perfectly balanced proportions, and a pleasant sensation of calm in the busy capital city.
