ON A HIDDEN HILL IN PARIS, JEAN-PAUL GOUDE IMAGINES SHOWS, INSTALLATIONS, PHOTOGRAPHS, VIDEOS.

Thirty-one windows That little of a furious masterpiece building women («Égoïste!») was at the by Jean-Paul ventor of images, Goude, including amazing that inof Grace Jones in the 1980s. His brilliant work recently featured in an exhibition in Milan, “In Goude We Trust”, sponsored by Chanel: photographs, videos, installations, performances. We met him at his studio in Paris. Tell us something about this place. In the 1980s I bought a small house on a steep hillside near Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. One day I saw a crane at the end of the garden and realized a new building was coming, which was going to block our view. I made a deal with the developer: I would buy the two upper levels to make myself a studio. So I still have my view of the Sacré-Coeur and the Tour Eiffel. What does Paris mean to you? Endless inspiration and glamour. It’s my home. I see pieces by famous designers like Le Corbusier and Mallet-Stevens. What is your take on design? Design is everywhere: fashion, magazines, cinema, architecture, objects. I don’t make decorative artifacts, but design permeates all my projects. What is your favorite item in here? If I must choose: the Religieuse lamp by Pierre Chareau. Set designer, maker of images, director, inventor, illustrator, sculptor: which term do you prefer? Let’s not get carried away, please. I might start thinking I’m really an artist. THE END
