Erano i primi anni del dopoguerra, l'Italia annaspava tra le rovine, ma in giro si avvertiva voglia di divertirsi, di riscoprire la propria terra liberata, di farla conoscere anche ai ragazzi. Campo Grafco accattivanti risultarono un anatroccolo in acqua con lo zaino sulla schiena e un bambino che gioca con un piccolo battello sulla sponda del lago. Storie di un'altra epoca? Certo: la colazione al sacco è oggi una rarità, e ai bambini certe libertà di movimento non sono più permesse. Eppure il messaggio di Dradi resta attuale: incentivare gite e vacanze sui laghi Maggiore e di Como. In questo senso il treno FNM è un mezzo eccellente: comodo, rapido, sicuro, porta a destinazione senza i problemi di parcheggio che l'auto, sua rivale, ha immancabilmente a detrimento della serenità del viaggio. Anche la frequenza aiuta a preferirlo: ogni ora, dalla stazione Milano Cadorna ce n'è uno che in sessanta minuti arriva a Como Lago: di qui, uscendo dal poderoso portale in ferro di fne '800, si è subito all'imbarcadero da cui si salpa in battello per i tanti magnifci approdi che costellano le rive del Lario. E da Milano-Cadorna partono i treni con destinazione Lago Maggiore, le sue isole inforate e le sue sponde ricchissime di borghi romantici, palazzi storici e ville splendidestazione Laveno-Mombello, che, inaugurata nel 1886, conserva elementi d'epoca. Treno più traghetto: un modo rilassante e assai godibile di scoprire, da punto di vista insolito e affascinante, luoghi tra i più straordinari della Lombardia.
