70 DAVIDE OLDANI I MOVE HOUSE

-

D’O, the renowned 'cucina pop' restaurant, finds a new home in Cornaredo. Bigger and better with a hip 1970s lounge, another dining room and an expanded menu. Buon appetito!

The had the culinary scoop in an article entitled 'Davide Oldani of D’O Restaurant Expands His Empire'. The only error was the opening date: summer 2015. Nearly a year later, on 14 June, the new flagship D’O will open just a few metres from the original restaurant in Piazza di San Pietro all’Olmo in Cornaredo, a small city about 20km outside Milan. D’O has done quite well, during its first 13 years. The restaurant bears a Michelin star, has an eight-month-long waiting list and was the subject of a Harvard Business School case study. Oldani explained to the students his business model. That is, what he calls Cucina Pop, a food philosophy combining affordable prices, big plates and carefully selected primary ingredients. The former apprentice of star chef Gualtiero Marchesi is at a turning point in his culinary career. He talks about «a complete evolution that begins in the piazza with the young elm tree and the 17th century church reflected in the restaurant». Credit going to the full-length windows. Oldani brought an artisan’s meticulousness to the project. With a ruler always tucked in his pocket, he enlisted his friend Piero Lissoni, the modernist architect, to oversee the work and leave his clean imprint on the layout. «He created for me what I wanted». First order, the 1970s-style lounge that immediately makes you feel at home. Blue velvet banquettes, carpets, pillows, small tables, a lamp with a chef ’s hat that Oldani calls his 'Philippe Starck homage'. He added, «Here you can enjoy a drink and some appetizers or even a plate of risotto if there isn’t a table available in the dining room. The point is to make people feel welcome. This is Italy. The Lombardy region. They come here for our food, our hospitality. I wanted to celebrate it». Tradition and trends are kneaded together, formed with warmth
