Sylva Yepremian’s passion for fine jewelry began as a childhood dream. Nine years ago, she launched her brand, SYLVA & CIE., in Los Angeles; it has since become known for its balance of ancient world elegance with dynamic and imaginative designs. The variety of precious metals and the brilliant, colorful stones have become aesthetic hallmarks of the brand; Sylva uses reclaimed diamonds and recycled vintage elements to transform something old and something found into something unexpectedly modern. Creating sustainable jewelry fills Sylva with a sense of pride, which is why the challenge of turning a humble tagua nut into a work of art appealed so strongly to her. A material that resembles ivory but breathes like wood, the tagua is an abundant and sustainable resource, unique in its texture and versatile in its application. It is a substance that perfectly exemplifies the direction in which fine jewelry is moving: discovering new methods and materials to create collectibles of exquisite quality that also honor our shared cultural heritage and our earthly history. As an aware artisan, Sylva is proud to be part of this major shift in the industry. Working with the tagua has offered her an interesting opportunity to galvanize real environmental and social change through her showstopping eco-conscious pieces. And perhaps those who adore SYLVA & CIE. will become green jewelry ambassadors due to the unmistakable passion and sincerity for environmental protection Sylva exudes throughout her jewelry collection.
