Where are you from and where did you study? Chelsea Goldman: “I’m from New York but I went to school in London at Central Saint Martins. I worked at Céline while I was a student, so I used to spend half my time in London and then skip school to spend the other half in Paris.” When did you

launch your line? “I returned to the USA to work for Proenza Schouler for a hot second, and I realised I didn’t want to be an assistant designer. That’s when I started the line in 2015.”

Why did you establish your brand in New York? “I felt that in New York there was room for a designer who had come from a British-European background.” Can you tell us about

the support you’ve received? “It’s been about surrounding myself with the right people, whom I feel I can connect with to create a community. But it’s also been a question of nding other talents to collaborate with. For example, we use the same photographer and stylist every season.” Where do you

produce? “All of our production is in New York. I’m crazy when it comes to quality, so the fact that I can be at my factory every day is very important to me.” Where do you source

your materials? “We’re doing a lot of European sourcing because I want to go wherever anything is best. We get our silk from a mill in London that has been doing tapestries for Buckingham Palace forever. It’s really exciting when you can use something that’s so old-world and make it modern.” •
