MIRO SABO SLOVAK REPUBLIC

- @miro.sabo

“A physical transcription of my soul and interests.” This is how Miro Sabo describes his eponymous label. “My work is highly personal and connected to my inner world, so I do a lot of things intuitively, even irrationally,” explains the designer who was born in the Slovak town of Trebišov, but moved to Prague over ten years ago to attend the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. His passions range from history and French nobility to ancient civilisations and 17th-century still lifes. “However, in my brand there’s always a postmodern mix of something disconnected,” adds Miro. “It’s a very extreme statement, but I believe you can combine everything if you use the right proportions, colours and details. So, ultimately, anything can become a source of inspiration.” Perhaps this approach is also rooted in the way Sabo got into this world: “When I was about 16 years old, I started drawing sketches while browsing through the pages of fashion magazines. It was the period of John Galliano, Tom Ford and Alexander McQueen – all those ‘everything is possible’ designers.” For his SS 2018, Miro has played with volumes, sleeve lengths and drapings. But he has also created one-shoulder dresses and wide pants, as well as introducing glass components sourced from the Czech company Preciosa. “Some pieces were actually made with fabric leftovers,” admits Sabo. “I had lots of fun developing the patched looks from my previous collections.” •
