ROKH SOUTH KOREA
How would you de ne the style of your brand? Rok Hwang: “My vision features an intriguing mix of youthful awkwardness fused with teenage curiosity and stubbornness. The improvised and unscripted design method allows each collection to be based on a true re ection of the creative process. The aim of this approach is to project the Rokh woman, who is actually more of an idea than a reality, but it’s a concept that allows the audience to delve back into a headstrong and adolescent self. With my designs, I constantly seek innovation through the cut, t and shape. The narrative of my clothes continually changes and evolves each season, but with a non-seasonal approach that focuses on the lingering story of today’s youth. I strive to create a new language, while concentrating on the value of each garment’s construction.” You’ve worked for important brands such as Céline, Louis Vuitton and Chloé. How much have these experiences in uenced your work? “I found it very di erent to conceive a style of my own. It was more challenging to change my visual understanding.” The title of your SS 2018 collection is “Fragility”. Why is that? “My vision of women has always been youthful. I wanted to capture those teenage years when nothing is perfect, complete or makes sense, or has matured in taste. Insecurity, fragility and the imperfection of youth have always inspired my vision and been part of my experience.” •
