NORWAY
The brand’s founder Pernille Nadine sums up sustainability in three words: “Durability, quality and transparency.” According to this Norwegian designer, the item that perfectly represents these concepts is her unisex oversized alpaca coat. “It’s a classic you can have for a lifetime and pass down to future generations. It’s thoughtfully designed so you can wear it in multiple ways. It’s handmade in small quantities from high-quality sustainable materials. The origin of this piece takes centre stage on our web store, where you can read all about our fabrics and supply chain.” Talking about her choice of suppliers, she says she focuses on small businesses “that work in a socially and environmentally friendly way, supporting traditional craftsmanship and contributing to the local community and charities”. In her constant search for innovative and ethical materials, Pernille has even tried a new type of leather developed using waste from the apple food industry. But her concept of sustainability also extends to branding, labour, packaging and distribution. “Our garments are produced in London by people earning a fair, living wage. We street-cast our diverse models and we never beauty-retouch our images. The labels are made from GOTS certified cotton, and the packaging comes from recycled materials. It currently takes about six weeks from the order until the finished item is sent via a carbon-neutral shipping service.” • F.B.
