Cross-cultural contaminations in Naples

The Accademia della Moda in Naples – the outstanding fashion school in South Italy that boasts a job-placement rate of 80% for its graduates – begins an academic year full of strategic initiatives and collaborations

The new academic year recently started at the Accademia della Moda, the prestigious fashion school established in Naples by Domenico Lettieri and now headed by his son Michele, who in 2018 celebrated the opening of the second branch in Milan. The institution recognised by Italy’s Ministry of Education opened its doors to over 850 students, beginning a year packed with initiatives and events that will be kicking off in the coming months. In fact, the Accademia della Moda is the organising body of the “World Footwear Congress” founded by the CEC (European Confederation of the Footwear Industry), which is being held in Italy for the first time. Hosted in the splendid setting of Castel dell’Ovo in Naples on 4-5 April, the event will offer students an invaluable opportunity to meet worldwide footwear-sector experts and institutions, which will be discussing digitalisation and sustainability. Then, on 1 July, the academy will inaugurate an exhibition of works by Daniel Lismore at Palazzo Nazionale delle Arti in Naples, which will remain open until 1 August. Titled “Be Yourself, Everyone Else Is Already Taken”, it will be the first one-man show in Italy for the artist, who is also ambassador of Graduate Fashion Week 2019. Thanks to his collaboration with the outstanding academy, Lismore will inspire the students who will be presenting their installations in a dialogue between art and fashion.
