Edge 105 launches Bob Andy contest

JAMAICA’S newest radio station, The Edge 105 has launched a contest centred around legendary Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Andy, who died in March of this year.

Keith Anderson, his talents and impact of his music.

The Bob Andy Song Contest will run for 20 days starting tomorrow, July 6 and culminate on August 3.

The station noted that its aim is to facilitate a wider appreciati­on of Bob Andy’s top-quality songs, both popular and lesser known, honouring his contributi­ons to reggae music while helping to preserve his legacy.

The competitio­n will take place during the station’s morning programme, Top of the Morning with Richie B, which is aired on weekdays from 6:00-10:00 am.

Every day at 8:15 Richie B will dedicate 10 minutes to the feature. During this slot he will play two Bob Andy songs – one from a list of his bonafide hits (referred to as the ‘A’ list), and another selection from his lesser known songs to be known as the ‘B’ list. The Edge 105 listeners will be invited to choose two favourites, one from each list.

Listeners are also being asked to list their two favourites on the station’s website. At the end of 20 days all the votes will be tallied and the voters

Reggae Sumfest team have inked a deal with Facebook (FB) and Instagram (IG) to host a virtual staging of the event.

According to the producers, under the agreement a variety of activities will be showcased on the platforms to celebrate Reggae Sumfest, and Jamaican music and culture, from July 20-25 – a week after the originally scheduled dates for the festival.

Joe Bogdanovic­h, chairman and CEO of Downsound Entertainm­ent, the producers of Reggae Sumfest, and this Facebook collaborat­ion provided the background to this landmark alliance.

“When the COVID-19 pandemic led to the postponeme­nt of Reggae Sumfest 2020 our team explored a range of ideas and decided to pursue a partnershi­p with Facebook. The relationsh­ip began in

2019 at the New York launch, when we toured their headquarte­rs. Facebook welcomed the opportunit­y and agreed to host the Reggae Sumfest week of events. This initiative is in keeping with the creativity and innovation that is characteri­stic of the Sumfest team. The POST-COVID world will see an increase in virtual events, and this is a positive beginning for Sumfest,”he said. who had their favourites picked as the number one Bob Andy song on each playlist will have their names entered into a draw, from which the winners will be chosen.

The top three winners from each list will win $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000, repectivel­y.

The Edge 105 has partnered with sponsors, Tools Hardware Limited and New Budget & Supplies for the cash prizes to the six lucky listeners.

Among the slate of activities will be highlights of past performanc­es, interviews with artistes, and music workshops and panels done in conjunctio­n with the FB/IG team as well as Pandora. It will culminate on July 24 and 25 with the broadcast of performanc­es by a suite of artistes, live on the two platforms.

“This will be no ordinary show. Reggae Sumfest has been known to raise the bar when it comes to entertainm­ent, and this will be no different. We know that the new normal has become online events, but we aim to take this to a whole new level to ensure that our loyal fans enjoy the exceptiona­l production and entertainm­ent standards that are part of the Sumfest tradition,” he pledged.
