Brown admits that with it being his first mural he was somewhat cautious in executing the work. Furthermore, working in colours and paint is not something he is used to. Luckily he had the assistance of fellow artist and fellow Edna Manley College graduate Dushaine Lorraine, whom he said offered him invaluable assistance. Brown shared that his love affair with art was discovered as early as six years old.

“I was sitting in a class, got bored and just took up my pencil and started drawing. At Manchester High School he did the science, but could not see himself studying at any of the major local universities.

“I did the sciences but my heart was just not there. I couldn’t tell my parents that I wanted to do art, and never even sat it in my exams. However, I had the opportunity to spend two years at Dinthill Technical and came in contact with two persons who were studying at Edna Manley [College] and with their help I honed my skills, did art exams and got accepted to college,” he shared.

With the mural completed, a sense of pride fills Brown whenever he thinks of the work.

“I am very impressed and proud of myself… there will be more. I think what Kingston Creative is doing is very interesting, as part of the 2030 vision for the revitalisation of downtown Kingston and return it to its former glory. In addition it helps to showcase the talent and capabilities of local talent. It’s really great,” Brown said.
