Remote Pacemaker Monitoring at PICJ

-

Sometimes when a person experiences repeated episode of dizziness or fainting (syncopy), the cause can be a slow heartbeat. The slow heartbeat or bradycardia, results in not enough blood reaching the brain and body especially at times of activity when the demand is increased. These episodes of syncopy can result in harm to the patient. They would experience symptoms such as a lack of energy, tiredness and inability to carry out their daily activities.

To diagnose bradycardia an ECG (Electrocardiogram) or a 24–48hour Holter ECG may be done . If it is intermittent, an implantable device called an ‘Event Recorder’ may be required. This is a small jump drive looking device that is inserted under the skin in a cardiologist office, over the heart and can monitor the rhythm for over a year.

Once diagnosed a device called a pacemaker may be required. This device stimulates the heart to beat at a normal rate. Pacemakers are inserted by a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon who will have to monitor the device periodically to ensure it is working properly.

Persons can opt for a device called Mycarelink, which allows them to do these checks at home. Using a smartphone, the patient can perform the checks at home and a report is sent via the internet to their cardiologist. This device is beneficial to patients who live in the rural areas ,are bedridden or staying at home during these COVID-19 times.

These cardiac assessments and much more are performed at Partners Interventional Centre of Jamaica (PICJ).CALL us at 876 6130166 or Whats app 876 995-PICJ(7425). Emal info@pic-jm.com .Visit our Website pic-jm.com.
