Thousands of Jamaicans continue to suffer the debilitating effects of Lupus, known medically as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, a disorder of the immune system. The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica continues to support the fight against Lupus through its education programmes, advocacy and support to persons to living with the disease.

Monday May 10, 2021 marks the annual observation of World Lupus Day under the theme Make Lupus Visible, highlighting the need to increase awareness and knowledge of the disease, its wide impact and the need for earlier diagnosis, increased attention, research, and access to treatment, health care and support for the many persons - adults and children impacted by this serious disease.

On World Lupus Day, Lupus Foundation of Jamaica will be hosting a special Online Event called “Un-masking the Many Faces of Lupus”. The event will be a one (1) hour live stream on May 10, 2021 starting at 7 pm on the Organisation’s social media channels Facebook and Youtube.

The Lupus Foundation of Jamaica Virtual Event will be hosted by media practitioner Roxanne Nickle of The Edge 105FM and aims to bring awareness and understanding of “the disease of many faces”, information and encouragement to those living with lupus or supporting those living with the disease and make persons aware of the support offered through the Foundation.

The Virtual Event will feature real Jamaicans sharing stories that reflect the diverse experiences of persons living with the disease, seasoned professionals in the field of lupus care and volunteers of the Foundation, as well as a virtual tour of their Learning Centre.

This event also kicks off the Charity’s drive to raise funds to support efforts to provide assistance to persons needing support in the treatment of Lupus.

The Foundation is inviting support of the media and the public at large in endorsing the efforts of the Foundation and joining in the call for volunteers and donations.

The public is being encouraged to participate in other various activities for World Lupus Day such as viewing poster Displays at various Parish Libraries and Hospitals and clinics across the Island, requesting materials for their own displays, supporting their Lupus Education campaign on Social Media, to purchase merchandise or purple ribbons, and Put On Purple on May 10, 2021 in solidarity with persons living with lupus.
