MESSAGE FROM THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
On behalf of the People’s National Party, I congratulate the Communist Party of China (CPC) on its 100th Anniversary.
The CPC has been the governing party of the People’s Republic of China for the last 72 years (since 1949), and has navigated the world’s most populous country on a path of unparalleled rapid development. Over this period, China has achieved remarkable economic, technological and social successes that have earned admiration across the globe.
Over these years, the CPC has grown into the world’s biggest ruling party with over 91 million members, ensuring a level of cohesiveness and continuity of policy which no doubt has facilitated these exceptional successes.
The CPC’S dedication and continued leadership in the thrust for carbon neutrality is of vital importance to the entire world. We commend China’s reduction of its reliance on coal, and the decrease in its overall pollution through sustained usage of renewable energy sources, nuclear energy and natural gas.
The People’s National Party admires the CPC’S sustained commitment to social development, which has lifted millions of its citizens out of poverty. We note that 745 million fewer people are living in extreme poverty than was the case 30 years ago in China, another truly tremendous achievement.
It is in this context that we commend the work of the CPC and its leadership, and once again recognize the significance of the mutually respectful relations between Jamaica and China that began under our former Party President the Most Hon. Michael Manley. In the true spirit of comradeship, I once again extend my heartfelt congratulations to the CPC on this milestone achievement.
