A MESSAGE FROM THE JAMAICA CHINA FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION
Congratulations to the Communist Party of China on the Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of its founding.
China’s history spans several thousand years in which China had to overcome many obstacles, some extremely painful and which are remembered by the long suffering Chinese People.
At the time of the Founding of the Party, in a small house on a small street in Shanghai, China was just beginning to come out of the darkest days of its history. China had been occupied, plundered and dismembered both by European powers and its Asian neighbours. The Party had to face both the world opposition to its ideology as well as internal opposition within China. Its leadership ( later Chairman Mao Zhedong and Premier Zhou Enlai) had to make the difficult decision to undertake the Long March with their army across China in order to gather numbers needed to defeat their enemies. This indeed was the turning point in their struggle and is celebrated as such. While the Japanese invasion briefly united the factions, the Nationalist groups tried to seize the Government at the end of World War II. After roundly defeated the groups which fled to Taiwan, the Communist Party of China declared the Peoples’ Republic of Chana and has been its Government ever since.
In the brief period of 72 years, the Government of the Communist Party of China developed a technocratic system of “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics” which brought a war torn, extremely poor country from starvation to being one of the leading economic powers in the world.
The achievements of the technocrats of the Communist Party of China in lifting some 800 million people out of poverty, development of most modern infrastructure, transport, finance, security, space exploration and so on, with their own form of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics have now become the wonder and envy of developing and developed countries.
Equally to be noted is the willingness of the Chinese Communist Party Government to share its successes with the poorer, underdeveloped countries of the world by investing in these countries, thus giving them the opportunity to develop and lift up their own economic position in the world.
Jamaica’s history is bound with China for over 150 years and Chinese People have had a strong influence on Jamaica’s culture and development. Jamaica was the first country in the English speaking Caribbean to recognize the government of the People’s Republic of China.
In the spirit of long time bonds, the Jamaica China Friendship Association warmly congratulates the Chinese Communist Party on its 100th anniversary.
