Mother’s Canteens
Since opening the first canteen in Portsmouth Primary, St. Catherine, in 2009, Mother’s has successfully adapted its quick-service model to the niche school foodservice market. Soon after its inaugural opening, the canteen model was adapted to The Queen’s School in 2010 and by the end of 2011: Jamaica College, Excelsior Community College, Excelsior High, Naggo Head Primary, and Spanish Town Primary. Following in 2012 was the opening of canteens in Convent of Mercy (Alpha) Academy and Camperdown High and finally, in 2014, Mother’s extended its reach to Manchester High.
With its foremost objective being a patriotic one: to invest in Jamaica’s future human capital, Mother’s segue into this sector has included the remodeling and establishing of comfortable spaces for students to the tune of millions. The investment quickly reaped benefits, as the students now had more sanitary eating spaces, an increased number of lounging spots, a faster turn-around time for meals, more diverse menus, and most importantly, ample healthy options. This commitment to nurturing did not stop at students’ physical wellbeing but also extended to their minds, with Mother’s allotting grants and scholarships to the respective populations attending its network of schools each year.
Now a total of eight canteens in schools across the island, from primary to tertiary level, Mother’s proudly embraces its responsibility of nurturing over 27,000 growing minds each day, a labour of love the company is honoured to perform in service to Jamaica, land we love.
