A MESSAGE FROM HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST HONOURABLE SIR PATRICK ALLEN, ON, GCMG, CD, KST.J GOVERNOR-GENERAL
Acompetent professional accountant is an invaluable asset to any organisation. Professional accountants often find themselves at the frontline of safe-guarding the integrity of financial reporting and defending the source from which their numbers and figures derive. This important profession plays an integral role in the stability and progress of any society.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) has been a beacon of integrity and a symbol of public confidence for the local Accounting profession since it was established in 1965. As a governing body, the ICAJ has made significant strides in regulating the profession while empowering members through various educational and professional development programmes. The vigilance and advocacy which the ICAJ provides have impacted several laws. The ICAJ is also home to members who represent Jamaica with distinction on various International Accountancy Boards.
The successes attained by the ICAJ and the contributions it has made to the social and economic development of Jamaica can only be attributed to the hard work and commitment of its over 1500 members who are worthy of commendation. As ICAJ navigates the harsh realities of climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other unforeseen challenges in the business environment, I encourage you to continue “Rising Above the Challenges” as you incorporate the guiding principles on which the body was established.
The admiration that the local accountancy profession enjoys from its global counterparts is part of the belief that no matter how small, we should continue to use what’s right with Jamaica because it is only then, that we will be able to fix what’s wrong with Jamaica.
Best wishes for a successful Chartered Accountants’ Week 2021.
