STETHS, Manning’s, Dinthill maintain strong start

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Five-time former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), Manning’s School and Dinthill Technical maintained their good start to the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Associatio­n dacosta Cup football competitio­n after all won their third game in a row during Saturday’s packed schedule of matches.

The trio of winners joined Paul Bogle High who laid down a marker on Friday. Rusea’s High and Edwin Allen were among schools which won back-to-back games.

Green Pond High upset Cornwall College in their Zone A game in Montego Bay, winning 2-1.

Oshari Ellis gave Green Pond High the lead in the 10th minute but Braxton Richards scored his second of the season to pull Cornwall College level in the 21st minute. Wayne Gordon converted a penalty in the 63rd minute to restore Green Pond’s lead.

Richards could have salvaged a point for Cornwall College but missed a penalty in the 83rd minute as Green Pond held on for only their second victory over the former champions since the 2013 season.

In Santa Cruz, Dantae Campbell scored his second goal of the season and Nickardo Smith got his first as STETHS beat Maggotty High 2-0 in Zone E.

Jhamaleek Porter added two more goals and took his tally to seven for the season as Manning’s beat Godfrey Stewart High 3-1 in their Zone D game in Savanna-la-mar.

Dinthill Technical had the biggest win of the day, beating Enid Bennett 10-0 to take over sole leadership of Zone K. Mcgrath High had their two-game winning start snapped, losing 0-2 to Charlemont High.

Guy’s Hill got their first win, blanking Ewarton High 2-0.

Shamour Smith scored back-to-back hat-tricks as he led Rusea’s High to a 7-0 win over Hopewell High at Orchard Grounds in Hopewell.

Deonjay Brown, Alaqa

Logan, Terome Morgan and Dameni Gordon scored the other goals for Rusea’s.

Ben Francis Cup holders Edwin Allen also made it two wins from as many starts, beating Lennon High 4-1. The goals came from Kimalar Fearon, Tajay Thomas, Jevaughan Mclellan and Patrick Harrison. Kemoy Lloyd scored for Lennon.

Frome Technical made a grand start with a 9-0 thrashing of Merlene Ottey High as Ackeem Kangol led the way with a hat-trick. Stevon Spence got a brace while Kemar Beckford, Javel Clarke, Dwayne Watt and Demar Williams also got on the scoresheet.
