Bill issue resolved, PATH benefits restored

-

Dear Claudienne,

I am seeking your help to address an issue that I have been having with the Jamaica Public Service (JPS). I have been a customer of the JPS since July 15, 2021.

I live in the Morant Bay fishing beach area in St Thomas and I can provide details of my account.

I live in a one-bedroom 12X12 house made of plywood on a fishing beach.

The only electrical appliance I own is a 22” television set. I also have a standing fan, a DVD and I only use one inside light bulb. I go to work during the day between the hours of 9 am to 5 pm from Mondays to Saturdays, and no one is at home when I am at work.

After I got the first electricity bill on August 19, 2021, for $20,671, I contacted the JPS right away, as I thought that it was too high.the JPS told me to pay it, and I paid it in full. They said that someone would come within two to three weeks to investigate but no one came.

I again contacted them and pleaded for someone to come and check before the next bill came but still no one came.

The next bill that I received on September 15, 2021 totalled $12,564.48 but I could only afford to pay $10,000.

I am asking for your assistance in addressing this issue.

SR

Dear SR

Tell Claudienne contacted the JPS and note that your electricity bill was reduced after an investigation was done and it was discovered that you were being billed at the commercial rate.

We wish you all the best.

Dear Claudienne,

My daughter has been getting a Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH) benefit for a good while. My dad would collect the benefit from PATH on my behalf but since he died two years ago, I have not been getting this money.

The PATH office told me that I needed to come to the office and reapply for the benefit and I did that. The agent came to my house to do the reverification and in May 2021 they told me that they would call and let me know when the benefit would resume.

However, over a year has passed and they have not resumed the payment.

Could you please check on this for me as I need the money to help with the school expenses for my daughter.

ML

Dear ML,

Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the director of the PATH programme at the Ministry of Labour and you have told the column that you are now getting the payments.

We wish you all the best.
