Manning Cup rolls on with 10 matches on Friday
Atotal of 10 matches are scheduled to be played across four zones today as action heats up in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/ Digicel Manning Cup competition.
In Zone E, leaders Mona High are one of only two teams amongst the 20 schools in action today that gained a perfect three wins from three games. They will be looking to extend that streak to four at the expense of near neighbours Papine High who have managed just a single point from their three matches.
Mona High were in devastating form in midweek, blowing away Camperdown High 9-2 as they took their goal tally to 21 goals scored and three against. Papine, on the other hand, have scored just one goal so far this season and they will be looking to do more damage limitation than anything else against the rampant Mona attack.
Camperdown High have had a nightmare start to their season but will fancy their chances of getting their first win of the campaign against bottom-of-the-zone Kingston High at the Alpha Institute.
The most keenly watched match of the zone, however, will certainly be the game between second-place Wolmer’s Boys’ and thirdplace Hydel High at Heroes’ Circle.
Wolmer’s Boys’ are the other perfect team playing today and they too are hoping to go four from four — but their assignment promises to be a lot tougher than the zone leaders.
Hydel have won two from three and know that a win will not only see them close the gap on Wolmer’s to mere goal difference but also help them stay in touch with Mona, the only team to have beaten them so far.
The lone Zone D match will see leaders St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), who have seven points from three games, look to extend the gap at the top when they take on bottom-ofthe-table Spanish Town High who have lost both of their matches to date.
In Zone F, leaders Excelsior High travel to Jose Marti Technical for what could be a tricky encounter. Excelsior have won twice and drawn once while Jose Marti have won, drawn and lost in their first three matches of the season. Excelsior Coach Xavier Gilbert may not know exactly what to expect from his opponents today.
Second-placed Campion College have been the surprise package in the group and are on five points having won once and drawn twice. Their assignment against Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) will be a good measure of whether or not they are up for the fight.
Cumberland High versus Clan Carthy High is the other match in the zone.
In Zone C, Haile Selassie
High are the leaders on goal difference and travel to third-place Bridgeport High looking for their third win of the campaign. Fourthplaced Tivoli High host second-placed Charlie Smith High, while bottom-of-the-table Vauxhall host fifth-placed Edith Dalton Jones High.
