Rubyistheone loves the five straight — jockey Dick Cardenas

PANAMANIAN jockey Dick “Wily Coyote” Cardenas believes that, once the Anthony Nunes-conditioned Rubyistheone is campaigning over the straight course, she will always have a say in the outcome of her races.

Cardenas made the comment following the three-year-old bay filly’s runaway win in the Brand Optimization Manager’s Trophy over the five straight course on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Caymanas Park.

Supported at odds of 5-2,

Rubyistheone showed her usual dash when released from her starting barrier as she matched strides with stablemate Noble Impulse (Reyan Lewis), Market Place (Christopher Mamdeen) and Legal Bomb (Odeen Edwards).

Coming across the dummy rails, Market Place held a slim advantage ahead of

Rubyistheone but once the Natural Selection – Come Dance With Me offspring got into her groove the race was over, as she sprinted clear to a 5-length victory.

Market Place held her gallop well for second place while Ha Gow Siu Mei, a stablemate of

Rubyistheone, finished third under Anthony Thomas. The final time was an impressive 58.2 seconds.

“The horse [Rubyistheone]

liked the soft condition after the heavy downpour of rain. She is fit and I saw when she ran the last time and she got into a little problem in that race and so on Saturday (September 17), with a clean trip, I did expect her to win. It did not expect such an easy run but I had expected to win,” the former champion jockey said.

He continued: “Rubyistheone

loves the straight course. I don’t think she is ready yet for seven furlongs or eight furlongs but out of the straight, she is very effective.”
