RUSTY WINS AFTER AN EQUIPMENT CHANGE

Rusty, running with both the blinkers and figure-8 on, easily led home rivals in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three) and imported four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) event travelling a mile.

It was an even start for most of the runners in the nine-horse field. Passing the dummy rails at the intersection at the seven-furlong pole, Rusty assumed the lead.

The Patrick Lynch trainee, under the guidance of jockey Reyan Lewis, cruised ahead of Iannai Links (Omar Walker) down the backstretch. Rusty then moved ahead of rivals at the halfmile, and by the time the rest of the field turned for home, the four-year-old bay gelding was long gone.

Rusty won by 6 ¼ lengths ahead of

Khai Alexis and Omron (Dick Cardenas) in a final time of 1:39.2, backed with splits of 23.2 x 46.1 x 1:11.3.

SIX AVENUE GOES ONE BETTER

After finishing a close second to

Snowflakes going six furlongs (1,200m) on August 7, the Rowan Mathie-trained

Six Avenue returned to defeat rivals in a native-bred four-year-old and upwards maiden condition call at seven furlongs (1,400m).

With Roger Hewitt in the saddle, Six Avenue enjoyed a safe trip down the backstretch as the bay gelding sat in second behind Sparklin Tradition (Chris Mamdeen). Six Avenue snatched the lead, passing the five-furlong (1,000m) marker ahead of Silver Soul (Daniel Thompson) as Sparklin Tradition faded through the field.

Six Avenue turned on the power button to win by 4 1/4-lengths in a time of 1:31.0. Pro Johnny (Shane Ellis) recovered from a poor start to finish second ahead of Magic Bullet (Reyan Lewis).

JUSTIN BIDEN UPSETS AT 24-1 UPSET WITH VISOR ON

Justin Biden, after being fitted with the visor, got up in the nick of time to upset rivals at odds of 24-1 in a native-bred three-year-old maiden event at six furlongs (1,200m).

Trained by Lawrence Freemantle and ridden by Shane Richardson, Justin Biden raced off the early pace as Adenosine (Dane Dawkins) took the field into the half-mile turn ahead of Funometer (Anthony Thomas) and Friendofthefamily (Dick Cardenas).

Turning for home, Justin Biden got closer to the leaders as Funometer took over and looked all over the winner at the furlong pole. Richardson then produced his mount late, and Justin Biden was able to shed the maiden tag.

Justin Biden defeated Funometer by a short head in a time of 1:15.2. Storm A Come was third.
