Cedric to cause ‘Outburst’

- BY KEDIESHA PERRY Observer writer

AMERICAN comedian and actor Cedric the Entertainer is the headliner for Outburst Standup Comedy Series slated for the National Arena in St Andrew on October 29.

Event co-conceptualiser Kahlil Shirley says he and his team are pulling out all the stops to make its second staging a memorable one.

“For one, we have regular VIP tickets which has food and liquor inclusive. Then, we have the general area. We have eight sky box seats

... and with that, you can bring six friends, you get VIP parking, your own caterer, furniture and the whole works. If you don’t want to mingle with people and want your own area, this is perfect. We’re going above and beyond. We’re doing a circular dome stage and not the regular rectangular one. This is the first time this is going to be done. We’re doing a circular stage for a more intimate feel,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

Outburst Standup Comedy Series will also feature Majah Hype, Rita B, and Christopher “Johnny” Daley.

Shirley said he has known the headliner for years, and patrons can expect a top-notch showcase.

“I met Cedric years ago at a golf tournament and wanted him to do some stuff with him. When I initially engaged him, he had an HBO special to do so he couldn’t do it so he recommended Mike Epps and that’s how we got him for the first staging of the show,” Shirley recalled.

“We’re bringing international flair to the whole comedic arena…a tier-one comedian who is also a movie star in his own right along with Majah Hype who is the Caribbean’s king of comedy. We intend to take it much further and hopefully next year will be bigger and better,” he said, adding that Cedric frequents Jamaica to play golf.

Cedric the Entertainer is a popular television personality and hosted BET’S Comicview during the 1993–1994 season and Def Comedy Jam in 1995. He is best known for co-starring with Steve Harvey on the sitcom The Steve Harvey Show as one of The Original Kings of Comedy, and for starring as Eddie Walker in Barbershop.

The 2018, Shirley and his team took the comedy series across the Caribbean to Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Turks and Caicos, and the Cayman Islands. Mike Epps was the headliner. The intention is to do the same this year, once everything is confirmed.

He further stated that part proceeds from the event will be donated to a Corporate Area children’s home.

“We have a regular charity that we give to. My wife is the one who handles that,” he said.
