Highgate tackle Buff Bay in Sandals/costley T20 Blast

-

THE Sandals/costley Construction-sponsored St Mary T20 Blast is to resume with an expected enthralling double-header on Sunday, following a suspension of matches due to rainy weather associated with the passage of Hurricane Ian.

The competition will see action in Division 2, with the 2:00 pm feature match at Boscobel Oval pitting highly fancied Highgate against guest team Buff Bay United of Portland. In the opening encounter at 10:00 am a youthful United All-stars are set to tackle a confident Mango Valley aggregation.

Highgate are bubbling with confidence as they boast the likes of St Mary parish team representatives Darrien Walker and Gihon Murdock, National Under-17 representative Jevone Wynter, Shanor Douse who played on the Social Development Commission winning Boscobel team, and much-touted Tacky High School representative Romario Murphy. Buff Bay, however, will not be a walkover as they have a talented team led by Leronne Tyrell, Howayne Hyatt and Dwight Hyatt.

In the opening match United Allstars will field a host of the parish’s young cricketing talent, including Devonte Miller, Shavar Hall, Tedain Noyan and Dijon Taylor, backed by experienced Captain Howayne Hoilett. Mango Valley will also showcase their youth brigade headlined by Jordan Pinnock, whom many believe is the best young batsman in the parish, as well as ace all-rounder Ain Ennis.

Teams competing in Division 2 will play each other on a round-robin basis, with the top two moving on to a play-off round against the thirdand fourth-place teams from Division 1. The winners of the play-off will advance to the semi-finals against the top two seeds from Division 1.

“We are happy to be back following the passage of the storm and we are looking forward to a great day of matches,” said Ian Spencer, president of the St Mary Cricket Association.

Cricket fans are awaiting the appearance of the top two teams in the parish who will bow into Division 1 action at the culmination of the ongoing Jamaica Cricket Association T20 Bashment. Senior players such as national representative Alywn Williams, Tyrone Daley, Jermaine Chisholm and Antony Walters will make their appearance at that juncture.
