Adventist campers to spruce up Trelawny communities

COMMUNITIES surrounding the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium are expected to benefit from beautification projects during the Inter-american Division of Seventh-day Adventists fifth Pathfinder Camporee in April.

Speaking at this week’s Jamaica Observer Monday Exchange, Jamaica Union Conference of Seventhday Adventist Pastor Dane Fletcher said he and his team were currently “fine-tuning” how the event will impact the communities.

“There will be at least 250 pathfinders going out for four days, so at least 1,000 pathfinders will be going out to impact the community to do house repairs, painting, and cleaning and those kind of stuff,” said Fletcher.

“We don’t want to have just a camporee, whereby young people be inspired, do honours which speak about their crafts, arts, and how they can develop hobbies into not just something fun, to the extent that they may even consider how they can be entrepreneurial from some of the lessons and values and skills to which they are exposed in the pathfinder experience. We want somebody who might not even be a pathfinder to say they heard of this event and because these people [impacted] my life, [they] have been essential,” he said.

Additionally, Fletcher noted that temporary jobs will also be provided.

“The camporee will provide some form of short-term employment for some persons as well. It will generate economic activity for Jamaica,” he said.

The camporee, being hosted by Jamaica for the first time, will be held at the Trelawny Multipurpose Stadium from April 4 to 8, 2023. It will see approximately 15,000 people, including Pathfinder delegates and youth leaders from 24 countries, engaging in activities geared towards physical, social, mental, and spiritual development.
