REGGAE Boyz Vice-captain Damion Lowe has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) finalists Philadelphia Union.

The Philadelphia Union are the defending champions in the Eastern Conference and home to Reggae Boyz captain, Andre Blake.

The 29-year-old Lowe, who was acquired through a trade with Inter Miami FC, is looking forward to his new role in the “City of Brotherly Love”.

“I’m happy about the move; it’s a step in the right direction for my career. As MLS runners-up I’m excited to see if we can go a step further and win it all this season,” he said.

“There are a lot of familiar faces. I used to train with the academy and first-team guys when I was younger and played at Reading. I also look forward to teaming up with the national team captain, Andre Blake. I’m looking forward to this,” Lowe continued.

The towering defender began his professional career at the Seattle Sounders in the 2014 to 2016 seasons when he was loaned to Minnesota FC. He played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017 before making a move to IK Start in Norway through to 2020.

Lowe has since played for Al Ittihad in the Egyptian Premier League before joining Inter Miami in the 2022 season.

Philadelphia Sporting Director Ernst Tanner looks forward to having Damion in Philadelphia.

“He’s an athletic, quick player and we expect him to be an important piece of our defensive unit as we begin a season that will require line-up and formation changes due to the unprecedented number of matches.”

The central defender had one goal and one assist in 28 appearances (all starts) for Miami last season, making the MLS team of the week four times. He was an MLS defender of the year nominee, helping Miami return to the MLS Cup Play-offs.

He has two goals in 50 appearances for Jamaica.
