The Jamaica JSCB salute Jamaica Customs

-

The Jamaica Society of Customs Brokers (JSCB) takes this opportunity to salute the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) on this year’s International Customs day and week of activities which celebrates the contributions of the agency, which are essential to maintaining border security and the international trade system.

This year’s theme “Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting A Culture of Knowledge-sharing & Professional Pride in Customs” is most relevant at this time, against the background that the next generation is the future.

Nurturing the next generation means boosting employee efficiency and providing them with the necessary information they need to do their jobs. By giving employees access to an internal knowledge base, it reduces the amount of time they have to wait for assistance and increases their productivity. When employees do not have enough time or access to information, their productivity suffers and work output can be hindered

Nurturing the next generation of professionals is key to promoting a culture of knowledge-sharing and professional pride in Customs. Knowledge management and leveraging knowledge are essential for any organisation to fulfill its goals. Employees need to be encouraged to share their knowledge with others, both within the organisation and outside. This will also help them get comfortable doing so, as well as teaching others about organisational structures, processes and principles, applications of technology and more. By sharing information with people outside the organisation, employees can gain insight on future trends that may impact their industry.

This knowledge-sharing fosters a culture of collaboration and professional pride in Customs and the Customs Broker. To make collaboration work, Customs needs to build collaboration into their strategy. This includes making sure everyone is on the same page about the organisation’s goals and objectives, discussing how different ideas can contribute to those goals, and then setting timelines for when things will get done. This will also raise their sense of belonging in creating an atmosphere where everyone feels valued.

The Jamaica Society of Customs Brokers stands ready to partner with the Jamaica Customs Agency, in its quest to promote a culture of knowledge-sharing & professional pride in Customs.

Best wishes for a successful International Customs Day and week of activities.
