The CBFFAJ is proud of its vibrant partnership with Jamaica Customs

-

Over 57 years ago, the founders of the Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association of Jamaica (CBFFAJ), then the Customs Brokers Association of Jamaica, envisaged a future that would rely heavily on Knowledge Management and the ability of the Customs Broker to adapt, and to be agile of mind to the vagaries of change and rapidly evolving technology.

We can look back on our journey and feel a measure of pride that we have secured our purpose and relevance as the premier professional body of its kind in Jamaica and the Caribbean, by remaining true to our core value of promoting and facilitating the training and professional development of our Members. In more recent times, we have immortalized this way of being in the CBFFAJ by living up to the mantra of ‘No Member Left Behind’ in the introduction of a dynamic CBFFAJ Knowledge Management Series to enhance the professional practice of all our members and their staff.

Jamaica’s Customs Brokers operate at the very centre of international trade, as the catalyst that makes trade happen efficiently and within the boundaries of the law. We contribute to national prosperity and competitiveness by managing the movement of goods across borders and supporting the compliance strategies of importers and exporters.

The CBFFAJ offers a critical mass of over 200 licensed Customs Brokers operating at global standards and representing clients in every sector of business and commerce in Jamaica.

To the local business community and Jamaica’s trading partners, we offer Brokers, who are trained, competent and knowledgeable, and who are versed in the Standard International Trade Classifications and procedures governing customs clearance of goods in and out of the island.

We also offer environmentallyconscious Brokers, who in the performance of their duties in the trade facilitation process, are mindful of the negative impact of ‘environmental crime’ in the illegal trade and disposal of waste and hazardous substances in contravention of international laws. For Jamaica’s Customs Brokers, knowledge is power, and competence is supreme.

On International Customs Day, we endorse the theme for Customs Week 2023, ‘Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledgesharing & Professional Pride in Customs’.

The CBFFAJ is proud of its vibrant partnership with the Jamaica Customs Agency and important mechanisms like the Customs Brokers Licensing Advisory Board, and we congratulate Commissioner Ricketts Walker and the entire team at Jamaica Customs as we continue to collaborate to achieve greater results in the nation’s customs administration.
