The JCC lauds the tremendous progress made by the JCA

-

As articulated in its Mission Statement, the Jamaica Customs Agency is charged with “facilitating trade, protecting (the nation’s) borders, optimising revenue collection, through collaborative border management and delivery of high-quality customer service and to develop and maintain a team of motivated professional and competent staff.”

It is inarguable that the Jamaica Customs Agency has been steadfast in pursuing its mandate over its 100 years of existence. As the gatekeepers for trade in Jamaica it has executed the mission of maintaining compliance with international standards and trends to ensure that the Jamaican market’s access remains in line with its trading partners.

Through the JCA, businesses and individuals alike have been equipped with the tools for effective connection across borders -the lifeblood of any modern economy. Even as we acknowledge that the process remains a work-in-progress the JCC lauds the tremendous progress made by the JCA with its drive to create a more customer friendly, transparent and technology driven public interface.

This year the JCA and World Customs Organisation (WCO) wishes to bring focus to and continue their work by “Nurturing the Next Generation: Promoting a Culture of Knowledge-sharing & Professional Pride in Customs.” Their foresight in acknowledging that there is much more to be achieved and that cultural shifts must take place to raise the bar and make way for the next generation, is commendable. The JCA must ensure that it is equipped not solely to address the ongoing day to day challenges present, but also that it creates a culture of constant preparedness ahead of emerging challenges and more importantly, opportunities to propel Jamaica’s businesses and her people forward.

The JCC congratulates the JCA on marking Customs Week 2023 and looks forward to the continuation of its long standing partnership with the Agency in pursuit of national economic growth in an ever more interdependent world.
