JUTC’S tardiness has pensioner in limbo

- Tell Claudienne

Dear Claudienne,

In August of 2016 I commenced employment at the JUTC. On September 24 2021, my contract was terminated as I had attained the age of 65.

In January of 2022, I applied to the National Housing Trust (NHT) for my contribution refund, as the law allows you to do at age 60. In March 2022, I received a refund for the years 2016 and 2017 from the NHT. I then contacted the NHT and enquired about the other years. They informed me that the company I had been working for had not submitted my contributions for those years.

When I contacted the HR department at the JUTC I was informed that they were just submitting contributions for 2017. The HR officer said that she could not give me an answer as to when my contributions would be forwarded to the NHT.

I need to get more detailed information about my NHT contribu- tions, so could you please check with the JUTC for me? ML

Dear ML,

Tell Claudienne contacted the Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC and he has responded as follows:

“The JUTC has made progress in fulfilling its NHT contribution up to February 2023. Last year, we began making accelerated payments towards the employees’ contributions, and as a result, we have successfully paid up to March 2018. By the end of March 2023, we plan to clear the outstanding contributions up to June 2018.

Despite our efforts, we were unable to facilitate individual transactions for pensioners due to limitations in the NHT’S system. Currently, the MTM (Ministry of Transport and Mining) is preparing a Cabinet submission to secure the necessary funds to settle the remaining outstanding contributions.

We kindly ask former employees to bear with us as we work towards resolving this matter and to stay in contact with us for any updates.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.”

We wish you all the best.
