Meaningful Moments with Mom
“To one who bears the sweetest name, and adds a lustre to the same... Who shares my joys, who cheers when I’m sad. The greatest friend I ever had. Long life to her, for there’s no other who can take the place of my dear Mother.” -Anonymous
To our Top Bay, Alligator Pond, Manchester, Mama -Icilda Venora Martin Thomas
Our sweet Top Bay, Alligator Pond, Manchester, mama -- we will NEVER ever forget your kindness towards your many children – Elaine-ann; Yvonne-evadney; Joyce-verona; Beverley-angella; Delroy-Anthony; Desreen-maureen; Vanneth-Rose; and Michelle-Ann-Marie PLUS your loving husband Audley ”Jack” Thomas.
We will always cherish those wonderful memories of you cooking great turtle meals, fresh from the sea. Your gungo soup with those cornmeal dumplings. We won’t forget those days when you had to pack up all of us and took us to the hills under the caves to cook for us.
All because we couldn’t open our eyes in the house. The north wind breeze on the beach was unbearable and this breeze would last for days -- that was like famine on the beach -- seeing the sea thru one eye and can’t go near -- sand would literally bury you. The wind blew all the sand off the beach and dumped it in our house, in our yard and everywhere around us, so Mama Icy, you hid us from all that sand. You fed us well under the cave over the hill. We so enjoyed those days -- it was like mini vacation days for us hiding under the caves… sweeter yet, we couldn’t go to school.
Mama so many precious memories of you.
Most of all you were a kind person. You taught us to be good and kind like you -- and guess what Mama, we are passing on your goodness and kindness to our children; AND they in turn, are passing on these good and kind traits to their children…
