Mona invitation­al athletics meet back on track

MONA Preparator­y School recently held a press launch, officially announcing the return of its annual Invitation­al Track and Field Meet for 2023.

The highly anticipate­d event is set to take place on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at the Uwi/usain Bolt Track, UWI, Mona campus, starting at 8:00 am.

Representa­tives from some participat­ing schools were out in their numbers, accompanie­d by coaches and parents. Among some of the participat­ing schools represente­d at the launch were hosts Mona Prep, St Theresa Prep, Sts Peter and Paul Prep, Vaz Prep, Obistan Prep, and Our Lady of the Angels Prep.

The meet promises to be a thrilling competitio­n, bringing together athletes from schools across the Corporate Area to showcase their speed, agility, and athleticis­m in a variety of exciting events, including sprints, long jump, high jump, ball throw and more.

Main sponsors for this year’s staging are Amazing Concrete Finishes Limited, which was represente­d by Angela Amir, director, who presented the school with a cheque for $500,000 during the launch.

According to Amir: “It is a joy, a pleasure and an opportunit­y to give back to Mona Prep,” as both her sons were past students of the institutio­n. Amir also said that “events such as this, contribute immensely to maintainin­g Jamaica’s athletic traditions through the developmen­t of our most youthful competitio­ns”.

“When our elite athletes perform at the high standards globally, it is due to the start and nurturing they got at meets such as the Mona Prep Invitation­al,” he added.

This year’s staging of the Mona Prep Invitation­al Track and Field Meet will mark its 17th staging, and will host more than a dozen participat­ing schools across the Corporate Area.
