Elevated Entryways: The Impact of Wallpaper
When it comes to home décor, the entryway is often overlooked, but should never be. After all, this small space serves as the first impression of your home and should say “Welcome to my home”, setting the tone for what’s to come. One of the most effective ways to make a lasting impression in your entryway is by using wallpaper. Wallpaper is a versatile and transformative design element that can instantly breathe life into this often-neglected area of the home. Here are a few entryways that I’ve done, to help convince you to liven up yours.
CREATE AN INVITING ATMOSPHERE: The entryway is the threshold between the outside world and your home’s interior. It should be welcoming and inviting, and wallpaper can help achieve that. Opt for warm, welcoming colours and patterns that reflect your personal style. Soft, natureinspired designs can create a calming atmosphere, while bold, geometric patterns can make a strong statement. Pictured here is a bold and beautiful tropical print that I installed at the Courtleigh Hotel and Suites. This is the first thing you see on entering the space, and it sets a warm and welcoming tone for the decor in the lobby.
ENHANCE THE SPACE: Entryways are often small and may lack natural light. Wallpaper can be used to visually expand the space and add brightness. Light-coloured wallpapers can make your entryway feel larger and more open.
SET THE TONE: Wallpaper can convey a sense of style and personality. The entryway pictured here perfectly reflects the style and aesthetic of this client… bold, glamorous and stylish. The entryway wallpaper reflects the atmosphere in the rest of the home. For a classic and timeless look, consider traditional patterns like damask or toile. For a more
modern and eclectic vibe, opt for abstract or geometric designs.
The choice of wallpaper can set the tone for the entire house.
ADD TEXTURE AND DEPTH: Texture is a key element in interior design, and wallpaper can introduce texture and depth to your entryway. Textured wallpapers add an interesting tactile element to the space. This not only makes the entryway more visually appealing but also gives it a unique character. And a little goes a long way when you use bold wallpapers in small spaces.
MAKE A BOLD STATEMENT: If you’re feeling adventurous, consider making a bold statement with your entryway wallpaper. A striking, eye-catching pattern or mural can create an unforgettable impression. Just be sure that it aligns with the overall style of your home and doesn’t overwhelm the space.
COORDINATE WITH DÉCOR: Your wallpaper should complement the decor and furnishings in your entryway. Consider the colour palette and style of your furniture, lighting fixtures, and other decor elements. Coordinating these with your wallpaper will create a cohesive and harmonious look.
PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS: In addition to aesthetic, consider practicality when choosing entryway wallpaper. If the entryway is high-traffic and prone to wear and tear, you should opt for durable and washable wallpapers that can withstand daily hustle and bustle.
Wallpaper is a powerful tool for transforming your entryway into a welcoming and stylish space, so don’t underestimate the impact of wallpaper – it’s the secret weapon to elevate your entryway and create a warm, inviting atmosphere from the moment you step inside.
