IT’S been 26 years since he gave his life to the Lord, and since that time Mykal Malachi has been driven to do more as a man of God by utilising music to spread light, love, and positivity.

A gospel recording artiste, Mykal Malachi made his recording debut in 2013 and has released a Sterling Gospel Music award-winning EP titled Rise to Greatness, as well as songs including Prayer of the Teacher, Plenty Plenty, and A Better Life.

On Friday March 1, 2024 he released the song Daddy (remix) which features Dafari from Kenya. It was produced by the Kenya-based More Life Productions.

“Having a relationship with God, our Father and what that looks like and feels; our experience with God and how he has been a father to us — the father of fathers, the daddy of the universe — that’s pretty much the inspiration behind the song,” Mykal Malachi said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Friday.

He added: “Dafari has been a good friend of mine for years, so he reached out to me and said he wanted me on the track. So that’s how the collaboration came about.”

Given name Michael Taylor, Malachi spent his formative years in Spanish Town, St Catherine, where he recalls “singing in the bathroom” as an early sign of his musical destiny.

After baptising in 1998, he devoted his time to youth ministry and has occupied various roles in church. Today, he is an international chaplain and life coach. He also serves as pastor at Worship and Faith International Fellowship, Kingston Campus.

Said Mykal Malachi: “I was invited to church by my neighbours and the youth fellowship really grabbed my attention. It was a fun space where we could socialise with our friends in a godly way.”

He studied at Jose Marti Technical High and later the University of Technology, Jamaica, where he earned a degree in computing and information technology. Asked what defines him as an artiste, Mykal Malachi shared: “I live my life to impact lives. I am committed to playing my part in the advancement of the human race.”

Mykal Malachi, who describes his journey as both inspirational and creative, says his wife and two children keep him focused. “Also, the fact that I have thousands of people, if not millions, depending on me. If I win, they win,” he shared.
