Calling Reneto Adams

Dear Editor,

Reneto Adams, former superintendent of police, should be invited to assume the premier crime-fighting post in Jamaica.

The degree to which idiocracies have exercised absolute power steeped in sheer hypocrisy and egotism over the decades is simply staggering. Jamaica’s crime rate continues to staunchly romance our citizens, a fatal attraction adorned with emblems of enduring misalignments and deceit, stemming from biased banter.

Adams was the appointed head of the Crime Management Unit in late 2000. Bernard Headley’s Man On A Mission: Deconstructing Jamaica’s Controversial Crime Management Head states, “The Crime Management Unit ( CMU ) is in effect an anti-crime squad within an existing anti-crime squad. But the reasoning behind its creation was that in dealing with the country’s spiralling crime, it would play a more combative, in-yourface, take-it-to-the-hoodlums type role in a directed frontal assault on street and gang-related crimes. The country’s crime figures, especially for violent crimes, have been horrific indeed. At the end of 2001, the number of homicides in this island of two-and-a-half million people stood at 1,138, the preponderance of the victims having been killed, according to the police, by vengeful gunmen and irate family members.”

The numbers for all such incidents represent substantial increases over the previous year. The upward trend has placed Jamaica among a select group of “top’’ three or four nations with the dubious distinction of continuously having in recent years the highest homicide rates in the world.

Adams unequivocally executed his role in strict adherence to the outlined mandate of the now-defunct Crime Management Unit. Dare I say, its tenure was sadly transient and its authority fleeting due to immense pressure from exogenous forces. Assuredly, these “factions” lack an exhaustive analysis of the political and social landscape of Jamaica, cultivating a culture of misinformation in countless instances. The ebb and flow of crime is frankly difficult to decipher. Definitively, we persistently embrace the philosophy of arrogance and indulgences of precipitous judgement. In the midst of his impasse, he stood on shifting sands while remaining loyal to Jamaica.

Renato Adams is, in fact, the transformative force that can truly untangle the vast criminal web that has severely threatened to engulf the progress of our nation. His demeanour and expertise evidently outshines his rivals. Bold steps must be taken to repress the fear of change. The overwhelming sect of anarchists have assumed the veil of constancy for far too long, infiltrating every echelon of society, placing Jamaica under an intolerable, oppressive siege. A chokehold.

This redundant and agonising cycle of stark incompetence and docile corruptive influences must be decimated to summon a new consciousness.
