Young women, you can make it in spite of the ‘Marks’

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent disgraceful attack on the Speaker of the House Juliet Holness by the Opposition leader and People’s National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding.

As a young woman myself, I found his behaviour not only disrespectful but also discouraging to the aspirations of young girls and women across Jamaica.

Holness has long been an inspiration to many young women in Jamaica, including myself. Her unwavering dedication to public service and her commitment to uplifting her community serve as a shining example of what is possible when one believes in herself and works hard to achieve her dreams.

However, Golding’s reprehensible attack on Holness was not just an assault on her character but on all the young women she inspires. It sends a damaging message that successful, independent women should be unjustly scrutinised and unfairly characterised simply because of their gender.

I want to encourage all the young girls and women of Jamaica to not be discouraged by the actions of individuals like

Golding. Just as Holness has held her head high above such attacks, you too can rise above any attempts to degrade or belittle you.

You are capable of achieving anything you set your mind to, regardless of your humble beginnings or the obstacles you may face along the way. Do not let the “Marks” of the world define who you are or dictate your worth.

Let us stand together in solidarity and continue to support and uplift one another, celebrating the achievements of women like Juliet Holness who inspires us to reach for the stars.
