Levell faces Tracey test at Velocity Fest

FRESH from his personal best (PB) performanc­e in the 100m event last weekend, sprinter Bryan Levell will aim for another strong showing at Velocity Fest 15 which will be held at Ashenheim Stadium today.

Levell, 20, clocked a PB of 10.16 seconds — surpassing his previous mark of 10.21s — at a track meet in Gainesvill­e, Florida, last Saturday. Coached by Shaniekie Osbourne at Optimum Track Club the former Edwin Allen standout is expected to face tough competitio­n in the event from former national 100m champion Tyquendo Tracey, who holds the fastest time in the field with 9.96s.

Joining Levell and Tracey are Oshane Bailey, Michael Campbell, Michael Stephens, Emmanuel Archibald from Guyana, Ramone Barnswell, and Javorne Dunkley, as the other main challenger­s.

The women’s 100m is expected to feature some fast times and will showcase Natasha Morrison, Kemba Nelson, Tina Clayton, Christania Williams, Remona Burchell, Jonielle Smith, Shockoria Wallace, Serena Cole, Kasheika Cameron, and Jodean Williams.

In the men’s 200m, World Indoor 400m bronze medallist Rusheen Mcdonald leads the field and will compete with national junior 100m record holder Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, Zandrion Barnes, Michael Sharpe, Jazeel Murphy, and Tracey.

Stacey-ann Williams will lead the line-up in the women’s 200m, accompanie­d by Rushell Clayton, Roneisha Mcgregor, Ashley Williams, and Kasheika Cameron.

Continuing his strong performanc­e this season, Terry Thomas competes in the men’s 400m, facing tough competitio­n from Assinie Wilson, Javier Brown, Keeno Burrell, and schoolboy Amal Glasgow. World and Olympic relay medallist Janieve Russell is set to compete in the women’s 400m against Tovea Jenkins, Shiann Salmon, and Annicea Richards.

In the field events Fedrick Dacres leads the men’s discus event, with Chad Wright, Traves Smikle, Alex Watkins, Moses Parkinson, and Shaiquan Dunn also competing. Shawn-d Thompson headlines the men’s long jump competitio­n, with Aubrey Allen, Chevaughn Parkinson, David Tomlinson, and Joseph Ramie also participat­ing.

Tissanna Hickling leads the women’s long jump competitio­n, joined by Rohanna Sudlow and Mellisa Walker.
