They were: Theo Smith of Great House Caterers, US$25,000; Craslyn Benjamin of Benlar Foods, US$40,000; Sean Morgan of DMS Dental and Medical Supplies, US$35,000; and Randy McLaren of Bresheh, US$15,000. The competition comes as a result of a two yearold partnership between the Sir Arthur Guinness Project and the Branson Centre for entrepreneurship, Caribbean, geared at providing innovative funding opportunities for local companies and start-ups.
Imru James, brand manager of Guinness, celebrated with the winners at their success in acquiring funding for their businesses.
“The Sir Arthur Guinness Projects are geared at impacting the communities in which we distribute. We believe that we build Jamaica by being a part of social change, and one way that happens is through the growth of small businesses in our locale. Our vision coincides with that of the Branson Centre, so it is a seamless partnership,” he said. The competition was judged by local businessmen and women who hail from across local and Caribbean industries.
HAWKEYE IS introducing its new homeautomation security solution by offering its consumers the ability to monitor and control the security of their homes using their smartphones.
According to Twitty-Ann Thomas, general manager, Group Sales, Marketing and Client Care at Hawkeye, with Total Connect, they are able to give their customers additional peace of mind.
“We are guided by our mission to enable Jamaicans to protect what matters most. The safety and security of our families and our homes is everyone’s first priority. We are ensuring that the most precious people and places in their lives are protected,” Thomas said.
Hawkeye’s home-automation security system will enable users to remotely monitor and control their residence using any web-enabled device such as their smartphones. Features of the system include the ability to monitor who enters the home and control access by remote locking and unlocking of doors, as well as switching on/off lights, fans, air conditioners and other appliances, opening and closing gates and arming alarm systems.
Users can also receive email and text alerts about any suspicious event at the home, such as an intrusion. Customers can also include Hawkeye’s trusted 24/7 monitoring and armed-response teams to ensure that a completely integrated security solution is at their fingertips.
CHALLENGING TIMES
“We live in challenging times, and none of us can take our security for granted. The team at Hawkeye is constantly evaluating the needs of the Jamaican market and matching these with technology-enabled protection solutions to determine those that are the best fit,” Thomas said.
Hawkeye has been providing protection services for residences and businesses in Jamaica since 1988. Since then, the company’s innovations have consistently driven developments in the security sector in Jamaica.
These range from being the first to deploy motorcycleresponse teams in 1990, to community patrols and response bases, and the introduction of HawkGuard 24 personalsecurity alert solution.
“As far back as 2004, Hawkeye were the pioneers of web-based vehicle tracking in Jamaica, and are again leading the market in home-automation security,” Thomas said.
“Now, with an ever-increasing number of Jamaican homes having access to broadband connectivity and more than one million mobile-phone users carrying a smartphone, Hawkeye is again able to leverage the power of wireless technology to provide customers with a state-of-the-art security solution,” Thomas added.
