No charges re­ported for de­tainees in St James

Up to late yes­ter­day, the po­lice in St James had yet to in­di­cate whether they had charged any of the ap­prox­i­mately 40 peo­ple de­tained in a mid-morn­ing op­er­a­tion in the crime-rav­aged parish.

The peo­ple were taken into cus­tody by the po­lice dur­ing a se­ries of co­or­di­nated op­er­a­tions in and around down­town Mon­tego Bay.

Deputy Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice Ge­orge Quallo, who has re­spon­si­bil­ity for ter­ri­to­rial op­er­a­tions, told The Gleaner that the de­tainees were still be­ing pro­cessed by in­ves­ti­ga­tors shortly be­fore press time.

The op­er­a­tions cov­ered parts of down­town Mon­tego Bay and ad­join­ing com­mu­ni­ties such as Mount Salem.
