Met season runs until May 2017
THE MET has an 80-year tradition of broadcasting live performances to millions of radio listeners globally on the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network. This offered the springboard for the Live in HD programme, broadcast live via satellite to more than 900 screens across the globe.
Audiences in cinemas always have added advantages of the best seats in the house, they enjoy intimate and dramatic close-ups, as well as highly sought-after access backstage, where sets are miraculously transformed and performers are introduced and interviewed in real time.
The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s award-winning series of live transmissions to cinemas, is the world’s largest provider of alternative cinema content. The 2016-17 season features 10 productions and the curtain raise on Saturday, October 8 with the new production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde by Mariusz Trelinski.
The opera will be served by a cast of Nina Stemme as Isolde, Stuart Skelton as Tristan, Ekaterina Gubanova as Brangane and Réne Pape as King Marke Sir Simon Rattle will conduct in one of his rare appearances at the Met.
The shows run until May 2017, with live broadcasts at Carib 5 and encore performances at Palace Cineplex in Liguanea only.
Other live broadcasts will be Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (October 22), L’Amour de Loin by Kaija Saariaho (December 10), Nabucco by Guiseppe Verdi (January 7), Romeo et Juliette by Charles Gounod (January 21), Antonin Dvorakn by Rusalka (February 25), La Traviata by Giuseppe The legendary Plácido Domingo brings another new baritone role to the Met in Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’, scheduled for January 2017. Verdi (March 11), Idomeneo by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (March 25), Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky (April 22), and Richard Strauss by Der Rosenkavalier (May13).
